The AEA created the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) in order to assure the use of atomic energy for resonible purposes that matches the regulations of the common defense and security along with the safety of the public.
After the AEA was passed, the EPA gained the responsibility to create environmental radiation standards.
After AEA, the EPA also gained the authority of the Federal Radiation Council to create guidance and recommendations for their development of radiation protection requirements. Also, the authority to help states produce and carrying out radiation protection programs.
